Where is Waikiki Beach?

While the state of Hawaii recognizes over 140 different islands, there are 8 main islands that most people recognize: Hawaiʻi, Maui, Kahoʻolawe, Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi, Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, and Niʻihau. Club Wyndham is located on Waikiki Beach which is part of O’ahu in Honolulu.

Waikiki Beach is a well-known tourist spot and offers stunning white sand beaches, thrilling water sports, and must-see sunsets. The area was once a favorite resort of Hawaiian royals, which is easy to understand once you step foot there.

Pro Tip: Flying into Honolulu International Airport (HNL) is going to be the cheapest and most convenient option for most travelers.

Getting There

Now that you’ve grabbed your luggage and stretched your legs, let’s head to your destination. Here are 4 options for transportation once you land at the airport and grab your luggage:

  • Driving: The resort is about 9 miles (25-30 minutes) from the airport and if you’re renting a car, this is a very convenient option.
  • Ride-Share & Taxis: Uber, Lyft, and taxis are readily available at the airport and you can expect to pay around $30-$50 per ride.
  • Airport Shuttle: There are various companies who offer a shuttle from the airport to Waikiki Beach Walk. These can be pricier options as they are booked directly with private companies, but will be a direct route.
  • Public Transportation: While this is your cheapest option, many people report poor experiences with public transportation in Honolulu. The only public transportation on O’ahu is called TheBus and passengers report that large luggage is not allowed onboard, and travel times can exceed an hour. You are also sharing the bus seats with locals and it can get cramped.

For those who aren’t familiar, Diamond Head is a volcano (specifically a volcanic tuff cone), on the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu. Visitors can hike up Diamond Head Crater for stunning panoramic views of Honolulu.

4. Go Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay (30-Min Drive)

If you’re wondering if you can swim at Waikiki Beach, the answer is-YES! Hawaii and specifically O’ahu, offers unparalleled snorkeling experiences, including vibrant coral reefs, warm water, and stunning marine life.

The oceans surrounding O’ahu rival other tropical paradises like Fiji, the Maldives, Thailand, and
Mexico. There are plenty of private companies in O’ahu that can teach you the basics and provide a safe snorkeling experience. You can even get your snorkeling certification in O’ahu (PADI, SSI, and NAU) if you have some extra money and time.

5. Experience a Luau at Paradise Cove

Paradise Cove is a popular event venue and tourist attraction in O’ahu, offering a welcome ceremony, a buffet dinner with traditional Hawaiian and Polynesian food, hula dancing, and fire performances. Guests can witness the traditional "imu" ceremony where food is cooked underground in a heated pit, while enjoying beautiful oceanfront views. This is a very popular experience in Hawaii for a reason, and is a consistent winner of many awards.

When Should I Visit?

Hawaii and specifically O’ahu is busy year-round, but certain seasons see more crowds and higher prices. If you want to skip these, head to Club Wyndham during the off or low season:
